Magnolia

This project was a collaborative study of possibilities, focused on creating a light-filled enclosure and retreat to buffer noise from Government Way while preserving the character of the existing home and surrounding context. After starting with building and zoning code research to understand what was feasible, we explored four options — each balancing cost, craft, and scale.

Design Options

The first option enclosed the existing entry to establish a formal, ventilated threshold and added a simple deck for potted plants and garden views. The second option reintroduced the spirit of the original front porch, opening up more space for seating and making a new connection into the living room. The third option imagined a greenhouse-style porch that blurred indoors and out with generous glazing, and the fourth option added a flexible, operable louvered wall to expand or contract the footprint as needed.

Deliverables included dimensioned plans, elevations, exterior perspective views, and a rendering — the kind of tools we provide in to help clients take a closer look at their ideas.
